summer stripes

Stripes never go out of style. I wouldn't say my wardrobe is full of them, but the few pieces I have that consist of stripes I do love. This weekend I paired a blue striped dress with some brown accessories. I had this little number tucked away in my closet for some reason, and typically when I put it on, it goes over a bathing suit. I decided to turn it into a daytime dress; perfect for a scorching day down in Texas.

Jul's Gems

How it's already June I don't even know. I can't believe I've been living in Houston now for almost 2 months. I'm looking forward to this weekend for a few reasons. I have a friends birthday party, a friends going away dinner, some photo shoots for the blog, pool time (with a side of sangria, of course), and lots of work to do for my new website. It will be completed next week and officially relaunched at that time. I will let you all know when, and I can't wait for you to see it. And, with that, my gems for the moment.

gadgets can play dress up, too

I think we all can agree that leaving the house without your techie items is just not an option. And on those days that you are rushing like a maniac and leave your phone or iPad sitting on the kitchen counter, you feel naked and in a panic all day long. While we can all say it's nice to detach from the world when on vacation or a place where cell reception isn't an option, I think it's safe to say that this day and age we are all, unfortunately (or fortunately) attached to our gadgets and gizmos. With all that being said, if your phone is stuck to you at all times, it better look just as fashionable and stylish as you.

summer polka dots

For some reason, I just love polka dots in warmer months. I don't know what it is, but I tend to pull them out when spring turns to summer. Whether it's a blouse, a dress, a cover up while at the beach, I'm a big fan. If you are questioning whether you can 'pull off' polka dots, oh you can! You don't have to wear a top with large polka dots all over; you can opt for a more simple and dainty pattern (or even an accessory). As well, this is not something you need to spend a lot of money on. There are plenty of fantastic polka dot options at very reasonable prices. Click below to shop your favorite piece, and have fun with polka dots this summer.

take a peek at david peck

I attended the fabulous David Peck trunk show this past Thursday. Wow - does he have beautiful things! There were so many pieces there I wanted; more specifically the printed shorts. If they aren't the perfect addition to one's summer wardrobe, I don't know what is. If you don't know much about David Peck, make sure to check him out here. And, in the meantime, below you will find some of my current favorites from his collections, and a picture with the designer himself.

weekend review

Oh, the weekend (and June)! I'm off bright and early to San Diego for a good friends wedding. Couldn't be more excited. I know I only moved 6 weeks ago, but I can't wait to get away and relax all weekend, while celebrating such a great occasion. Given the weather report for the next few days out west, I have packed items for a warm climate during the day and items for a cool climate at night (sometimes I wonder why I don't live in CA). Some weekend essentials.

it's a fabric thing

Lately I'm loving fabric covered bracelets. Yes, really. I think it's an unexpected twist on your average set of bangles. It's a casual, yet chic, way to accessorize your summer ensemble. Since this may not be something you would wear year-round, don't spend a lot on them. There are plenty of options at very great prices. I love the idea of wearing a stack of these fabric covered little numbers on a weekend getaway to the beach or on a relaxed Saturday afternoon out with friends or whenever your heart desires.

how to dress for...a summer wedding

Wedding season is in full swing right now. You want to enjoy getting ready for the celebration of your friends tying the knot; not be stressed about what to wear to the event. Summer weddings are mostly about color, in my mind. This is the time I steer away from black. I still think navy is perfectly fine (I know I know - the 2 colors aren't THAT far away from each other on the color wheel, but I'm still ok with it). Bright colors are totally acceptable and actually a great choice. Pastels, bold colors, stick to navy - whatever makes you feel the most comfortable. In terms of shoes, opt for open toe and strappy. If you would rather wear a pump or a closed-toe style of some sort, stay away from black. This is the most carefree season of the year, so while you still want to look appropriate for a summer wedding (always check the attire on the invitation), you don't need to dress as you would for the middle of winter. Below are some fabulous dress options for this very occasion.

a glimpse

Such a perfect long weekend. How amazing it would be if every weekend consisted of 3 full days off. Mine was full of relaxation, catching up on TV and movies on the couch, reading, delicious meals, lots of wine, sunshine, and friends. I've been asked a lot to see pictures of the new apartment, which I haven't gotten around to taking. Now that my boyfriend and I have purchased a new camera (for my blogging purposes and his work purposes), all I want to do is play with it. I still have a lot to learn, but in time I hope you'll notice my pictures to be that much better (I hope)! Below you'll find a glimpse into the new apartment. More pictures to come soon.
